Silicosis

  1. P/c: SOB, cough, fever, cyanosis, pulmonary oedema, pneumonia, +TB (=’silicotuberculosis’), RF=CP+RHF. May have CTD (SLE, scleroderma) etc.
  2. Uncommon RLD
  3. May be seen in stonemasons, sand-blasters, pottery and ceramic workers.
  4. Caused by the inhalation of SILICA (occupational hazard of sandblasting)
  5. Dust is highly fibrogenic.
  6. CXR = distinctive thin streaks of calcification around the hilar lymph nodes, nodular lesions seen in upper lobes.
